RECO Disciplinary Process – How Complaints Become Decisions

Why this matters: Understanding RECO’s process helps you read discipline decisions and know what protections exist for consumers.

Process at a Glance

  1. Complaint – A consumer submits a complaint to RECO.
  2. Investigation – RECO gathers evidence, interviews, and records.
  3. Notice – If warranted, a Notice of Hearing/discipline is issued.
  4. Hearing / Resolution – Hearing before a Discipline Committee; sometimes resolved by agreement.
  5. Decision – Decision is published with fines/conditions where applicable.

How to Read a Decision

  • Facts – What happened and evidence considered.
  • Code Sections – Which rules were allegedly breached.
  • Sanctions – Fines, education, suspension, conditions.
  • Rationale – Why the penalty was chosen.
